Parents/Guardians/Students:
Welcome back!

We are excited about the start of the 2009/2010 school year. Students will be reviewing their transcripts, setting goals for graduation, and the weekly production to move toward graduation in the first week of school.

Revilla did not meet the requirements established by the State of Alaska for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2008-2009 school year. AYP is determined by the student’s test scores on the Standard Based Assessments (SBA). The tests that count towards Annual Yearly Progress are Reading, Writing and Math. Students also participated in a Science measure last April. Any parent is always welcome to review our teacher and paraprofessional qualifications. If you have any questions please contact me by phone or stop by school.

As always, any student can transfer to Ketchikan High School or Schoenbar Middle School to fulfill their education requirements. Many Revilla students, if interested, are eligible for “Supplemental Educational Services” without charge. The state has chosen several organizations for this purpose. There is information on these organizations enclosed. If you are interested or have questions you can contact them directly or contact me at school.

In determining AYP the Graduation Rate, attendance rate, and drop out rate are also a part of the AYP process. We have made progress in the Graduation and Drop Out rate and met the requirements in these areas. The area that we need to focus on this year is Math. We will be developing a plan to improve our student’s scores and encourage parents to join us in developing this plan. Any interested parents can contact me at school.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact Revilla and set up a time to meet (225 - 6681).

Sincerely,

Douglas Gregg
Principal
